About our Classes

For class inquiries, the best way to contact us is by email at info@duchessatelier.com. You may also call us at (780) 758-1162 but because we're often in class or in the kitchen, we may not be available.

Duchess Atelier is NOT located at the Bake Shop on 124th Street. Our teaching kitchen is located on the north side of Holland Plaza at 10936–119th Street. Please use the Duchess Atelier door for classes. There is ample parking in front of Atelier and on 119th and 120th streets.

We offer a variety of hands-on classes on baking topics including Macarons, Pies, Tarts, Cakes, Pâte à Choux, Seasonal/Holiday Desserts, Cookie Decorating, and more.

Our teachers have all worked extensively in the kitchens at Duchess and are a diverse group ranging from home bakers to professionally trained pastry chefs. We are united in our desire to pass on our knowledge and help people gain confidence in their baking skills. To find out more about our instructors, visit our About page.

Our classes are single-session and are typically three to four hours in length. The majority of our classes are hands-on, so please come prepared to bake! Please note that classes can run around 15 minutes over or under the allotted time. Our hands-on classes can accommodate up to 12 people.

Our standard classes are designed to accommodate any baking level. We will do our best to make the class a success for you no matter your skill level. On occasion we also offer advanced-level classes for students who have already taken the basic-level class in a given topic.

In order to meet demand for regular classes, we typically do not have the capacity to offer private or corporate bookings within a three month period. If you have a future date in mind or to inquire about a Sunday or daytime class please email as at info@duchessatelier.com. On occasion, we will set out specific dates for private bookings, if they are available you can find them here.

At this time we do not offer classes that are specifically geared towards children. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult (one adult per child), and we generally recommend a minimum age of 10 years old for even our simplest classes. Adults attending with their children must also register in the class.

We are happy to return to our original ticket purchasing set up! Tickets are sold individually per person. If you sign up for two tickets, you and your partner will be paired up together. If you sign up for one ticket, you will be paired up with someone who is also coming on their own. If there are three people in a group, two will be paired together and the third person will be paired up with someone from another party.

Registration & Attending Class

We release a new batch of classes every three, for purchase exclusively through our website. To be notified when our next batch of classes will be released, please sign up for our newsletter by filling out the form at the very bottom of this page. You will receive an email the week before classes are released, with the full class schedule, class descriptions, and prices.

We release a new batch of classes every three or four months, for purchase exclusively through our website. We currently run seven or eight classes per week, some on evenings and weekends and some during weekdays, and are always striving to offer more. To be notified when our next batch of classes will be released, please sign up for our newsletter by filling out the form at the very bottom of this page. You will then receive an email a week before classes are released, with the full class schedule, class descriptions, and prices.

On release day, if you need to make changes to your registration or cancel your purchase, please email us at info@duchessatelier.com or give us a call at (780) 758-1162 and we will try to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.

If you have a credit/digital gift card from the duchessbakeshop.com website that you would like to use to register for classes at duchessatelier.com please email us at info@duchessatelier.com with advance notice before a launch day so we can transfer your credit to the Atelier store.
If your credit (gift card) already states it is from Duchess Atelier, you will want to copy and paste that code into the gift card section at the end of checkout.

If you’re hoping to attend with friends, please note that we limit the purchase of tickets in a given class to 4 per person. This ensures that lots of people get the opportunity to register in our classes and allows for a dynamic class setting.

It is your responsibility to remember the date and time of the class you are registered in, and no credit will be issued should you fail to attend for that reason. This is a strict policy and no exceptions will be made. If you’re not sure when your class is, please contact us at info@duchessatelier.com and we can look it up for you.

You may cancel your registration in a class up to 48 hours in advance and credit will be issued towards another class. We don’t offer refunds on classes. To make changes to your registration prior to the 48-hour cutoff, please email us at info@duchessatelier.com.

If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or fail to attend a class, there will be no credit issued, and no make-up class offered. This is a strict policy and no exceptions will be made due to illness, weather, traffic, family difficulties etc.. A great deal of time and preparation goes into our classes and with very slim margins, we need as much time as possible to fill any vacant seats. Consider buying a ticket to a class in the same way that you would buying a ticket to a concert or an event: if you fail to show up, you cannot get credit back from the venue. Tickets are fully transferable, and we are always happy to welcome a friend or family member in your place.

For private bookings (buyouts): the time period to cancel a class and receive a credit is 14 days. We will not be able to offer a credit or a rescheduled class if cancelled within that time frame.

We offer as many classes as we possibly can, but because our class sizes are small, there are only so many people that we can accommodate. As many of you know, our classes sell out very quickly, many within minutes, so it is important to visit the site as close to noon as possible on registration day. We know that it can be very challenging to register given the amount of traffic on our website.

Unfortunately, due to technical limitations, classes are not held for you in your cart, so checking out quickly is the best way to secure spots.

We often have get last minute cancellations.Although we no longer have a waitlist, any available seats that come up will be posted on our Instagram account (Duchess Atelier) and will be available on our website on a first-come first-served basis. Check our website periodically for available spots and follow us on Instagram!

*Please note that there is a purchase limit of four spots in a given class per person.

What a lovely gift idea! We have just added Atelier Gift Cards to the website. You will find important information to note on the Gift Cardpage before purchasing.

We encourage you to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes for our hands-on classes. And for all our classes, please refrain from wearing perfumes or colognes as a courtesy to the other students in the class.

In exceptional circumstances classes may need to be cancelled. If this happens you will be offered a credit and a rescheduled class time. In addition, we reserve the right to change the class menu and instructor without prior notice.

If you are allergic or sensitive to particular ingredients, be aware that you may be required to handle all the ingredients used in the class, which may include dairy, nuts, flour, etc. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and recipe testing, our recipes for classes cannot be altered to accommodate food sensitivities and allergies. Allergy awareness is the responsibility of the student and not Duchess Atelier. Feel free to reach out at info@duchessatelier.com for information on the recipes and ingredients being used in class.
